Recently, Longto Precision Industry (Zhejiang) Co., Ltd. announced that its LiDAR housing for autonomous driving applications has been successfully developed and has entered the mass production stage. This marks the successful extension of Longto Precision’s core expertise in one-step cold extrusion forming for automotive camera housings into the LiDAR sector, where technical requirements are even more demanding.

Core Technology: One-Step Cold Extrusion Forming

Longto Precision’s independently developed “Damage-Free One-Step Forming Process for Cold Extrusion of Automotive Camera Housings for New Energy Vehicles” has been granted a Chinese national invention patent (Publication No. CN120772428A).

In this process, the blank is placed into a precision die and formed in a single pressing operation at room temperature through precision cold extrusion. No secondary grinding or additional machining is required throughout the process, enabling the housing to achieve micron-level precision in a single step.

Compared with conventional machining, cold extrusion offers several distinctive advantages. The continuous and intact metal flow lines provide the housing with enhanced fatigue resistance. Work hardening can increase surface hardness by 20%–30%, while material utilization can exceed 95%. Surface roughness can reach Ra ≤ 0.8 μm.

AI-Simulation Driven: Approaching the Theoretical Limit

Compared with camera housings, LiDAR housings impose more stringent requirements on dimensional accuracy, stress control, and thermal management. The R&D team worked closely with Shanghai Jiao Tong University and utilized professional simulation platforms such as DEFORM to digitally simulate the entire cold extrusion process, conducting nearly one hundred process-scheme simulations in a virtual environment.

At the same time, the company’s core patented technology, an “AI-Driven Automated System for Cold Extrusion Design,” played a critical role. The AI system automatically converts 3D models into data models and efficiently searches through a vast parameter space to identify the optimal process window. It can also predict potential risks such as insufficient filling and cracking in advance.

Simulation data is continuously fed back into the AI learning process, enabling each iteration to move closer to the theoretical optimum.

Mass Production Realized

In the first half of 2026, Longto Precision’s LiDAR housings officially entered mass production. With their core advantages of high precision, low residual stress, and one-step forming, the products successfully passed stringent validation processes conducted by multiple leading automotive manufacturers.
